Here (not in any particular order) is the Arizona Interleaf Users Group
1996 Wish List compiled at our June 1996 meeting.
(Note: Some of these have been on previous year's AIUG "Wish Lists",
1994
and 1992.
The year is noted at the end of such items for your reference.)
Some of these items may be planned for future Interleaf releases already.
(And by the time you read this, we hope many have been fixed.)
Interleaf 6
- Support the same fonts as were available in Interleaf 5 - this is
important for migrating systems, particularly those that *are not*
changing platforms. We were told the problem was lack of availability of
postscript fonts on the MS WinNT and MS Win95 platforms, but many
postscript fonts can be bought from 3rd party suppliers and used with
other applications, why can't Interleaf supply the ones we have had in
the past?
- Support the "Leafware" provided with Interleaf 6. Some of it is good,
but some needs fixes and enhancements.
- Need a supported "table sort" that works. (The one now in "Leafware"
is not sufficient. (Need sorting on any selected table component, row,
or column - forwards or backwards and on tabbed text.) (AIUG94)
- Restore the missing I5 functions in I6 so we don't go backwards in
function when we "migrate up" to I6. Some items important to us that
are reportedly missing are:
- Color separation
- Crop Marks -- only back "sort of" in 6.2
- Lisp changes (most 5.x needs to be re-written)
- Macros
- Fonts (e.g. Avant Garde, Bookman, ... the ones used in Interleaf 5)
- Leave the old Interleaf 5 graphics interface (at least the menu
structure) in place to help users transition without losing
productivity. A lot of time has been invested training long-time I4/I5
users and that is all lost when we move to I6 graphics.
- Combine the Attribute setup/value sheets
- Add spell check for attributes (at least for TITLE)
- Fix zoom: in I6, parts of footer can disapear if zoomed ... happens when
footer items are aligned to right of frame, I5 was OK
- Improve quality of bitmap graphics when rotated (especially small
rotations)
- Separate header/footer export option (AIUG94)
- Need the ability to print the description of a catalog and it's internal
settings.
- Need a grammar checker supported with the newer Interleaf versions, 5.4
and 6.x. This needs to include a grade level function. (Look at starting
with the old Avalanche product, since Interleaf now owns that, but make it
process within tables.) Preferably this would be part of the basic package.
(AIUG94)
- Need an ECMA Simplified English subset of grammar checker discussed
above
- On tool bar and pallets, show in a text popup what the icon means (like
W95 does).
- Need an easy way to highlight I6 components, then export these as RTF
(or ASCII) so they may be mailed to someone else, etc. (The reverse of
dropping some RTF into the component bar.)
- Make "Publish" save it as HTML so more platforms can view it.
- Change table cell widths with the ruler manipulation.
- Be able to convert outline text objects back to editable text for edit
and re-conversion to outline ... e.g. keep the original text as an
attribute of the graphic object, then use that.
- Need a Thesaurus included
- The text drag and drop arrow is white. On the white page it becomes
invisible. Can a user change the color?
- Need a more easily adaptable tool bar. Easily rearrangeable buttons
- Need a tear off "GoTo" menu
- Need a more easily adaptable "GoTo" menu. Easily rearrangable menu
- Need multiple undo/redo ability, not just one level
- Need to be able to have different last page header/footer (similar to
ability to have different first page header/footer now)
- Need "start anywhere" auto-numbers - catalog lock option.
- Combine graphics tool bars
- Combine Attribute setup with Attribute value
- Graphics size -- allow vertical/horizontal sizing
- Size tool bar buttons - toolbar wrap to second line
- Different size pages in one document
- Adaptable pop-up menu - customization
- Tear off button bars - multiple button bars
- Type component needed in property sheet, rather than menu search
- Ability for rev bar to appear on table headings on continued pages
- Choice on printer preferences to have "current" or "all" as default
("Current" would be best.)
- The ability to change the component name on the property sheet in I6
- Provide floating license pricing concept for the PC based products as it
exists for the UNIX based products. We don't really need full-time
licenses on each of our PCs.
- Need to create tables within a table cell. (AIUG94) (AIUG92)
- Enhance filter to ASCII so it preserves indentation format and columns
of tables. (AIUG94)
WorldView
- Make hyperlinks be able to be the existing texk changed to some color,
i.e., change the autonumber color and make that be the hyperlink.
- Hyperlink to actual autonumber, not just to page. (AIUG94)
- Open the size of the collection and title window - they are too small.
(It is a pain to re-size in Motif and the Windows version can't be
changed by the user.)
- After PRESS hyperlink ability so can link to other collections
- Better documentation for Production Manager
- Print list of titles for search results or search list result
- Print whole WorldView collection at once.
- Interleaf 6 document authoring without the desktop (as advertised.)
RDM
- The ability to make system calls from RDM.
(Oracle triggers don't count.)
General
- Push upgrades to the user base so we don't have to keep polling to find
out they exist, then beg for them to be shipped.
Attendee profile
There were 20 AIUG members who participated in the creation of this
year's "wish list". Of these, the number having a particular Interleaf
product is:
- Ileaf = 15
- WorldView = 12
- Cyberleaf = 5
- RDM = 8
